Ulea SuDean Rutherford, 63, of Burlington, died at 1:31 PM Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at her home. Born January 23, 1956, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Jerry Dean and Sondra Sue Stein Rutherford. SuDean attended the Iowa School for the Blind through 6th grade. Beginning in 7th grade she attended Burlington Public Schools, graduating from Burlington High School. SuDean was one of the first Legally Blind persons to attend public school in the United States. SuDean enjoyed swimming and enjoyed the sound of moving water. She spent her time knitting, listening to music, especially country, and doing research on her computer. She was an animal lover and had many pets over her lifetime. Survivors include her son, Ryan Rutherford; two sisters, Terri Rutherford of Minnesota, Lisa (Kyle) Bertrand of Texas; one brother, Jerry (Jennifer Davis) Rutherford of Burlington, two nephews, Benjamin and Kaleb Bertrand; one step-nephew Austin Davis; one niece, Addison Rutheford, as well as a great niece and nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents. Special thanks to her brother Jerry and his family who assisted in allowing her to continue to live independently during the last few years as her health declined. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory. There will be no public visitation or services.
