Leonard was born in Flint, MI on March 7, 1931, son of the late William and Leona (Kruse) Hennessy. Leonard was born and raised in the Flint area and graduated from Central High School. Upon graduation from high school, he entered the United States Air Force and served his country during the Korean War. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Ellen Brothers, on January 15, 1953. Together, they had 6 children: Matthew, Maureen, Kathleen, Wendy, Lynn and Margaret. Upon his discharge from the USAF, Leonard followed in the footsteps of his father and served the City of Flint as a Police Officer, where he received special commendation for his heroic actions that saved a man from drowning. However, Leonard had a very entrepreneurial spirit. After leaving the police department, he owned and operated a gas station in the Flint area and later a Tom’s Vending service, much to the delight of his children who enjoyed “sneaking” treats from his inventory. Leonard then went on to be the Plant Manager for Commercial Industrial Chemical before relocating to Florida to open Efficiency Office Supply Company in Okeechobee, Florida with his wife Carol. Leonard was active and enjoyed life to the fullest. Over the years, he and his family enjoyed boating on the Great Lakes, snowmobiling and ice fishing at Tip Up Town, fishing in Lake Okeechobee and camping all over the United States, often taking his grandchildren along!

Leonard had a warm, loving spirit and a very giving heart. He will be greatly missed by many but, especially by his special friend, Annabelle Stone; 6 children, Matthew Hennessy, Maureen Horton, Kathleen (Tony) Szuminski, Wendy (Rusty) Tebo, Lynn Hennessy and Margaret (Randy) Pittenger; 9 grandchildren, Nicholas Hennessy, Ashton Horton, Anthony Szuminski, Lena Szuminski, Emily Tebo, Hannah Tebo, David Hess, Michelle (Jeff) Olsen and Mallory Rivard; 6 stepchildren, Julie Dinnan, Donna Rockafellow, Diane Robson, Jane Neuens, Marcia Crane and Scott Rathburn; sister, Virginia (Norman) Sullivan; brother, Tom (Mary Kay) Hennessy; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wives, Joyce Hennessy, Joan Hennessy and Carol Hennessy; parents, Leona and William Hennessy; 2 brothers, Frank Hennessy and William “Boo” Hennessy; special guardian angel, his granddaughter, Amanda Horton.

Special thanks to the staff of the Cottage of Davison, who instantly became his extended family in the last weeks of his life.
