(81) went to rest with the Lord on Monday August 26, 2019 at Quality Life Services in Westmont surrounded by family and some staff the cared for him. Philip was born December 22, 1937, he was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Octavia (Shipman) Baxter, his wife of 54 years, sisters Betty Miller and Doris Fields and brother Willie Shipman. He is survived by his devoted daughter Donna and son-in-law Davis Porcher and his loving sister Margaret Hickerson. He is also survived by loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of long-time friends, church family and special neighbors on Oak Street. Philip was a 1955 graduate of Johnstown high School. In 1957 he started working at Bethlehem Steel as a janitor and worked his way up to Foreman until he retired in 1999 after 42 years of service. At one time he was an avid hunter and he loved to go rabbit hunting at his special place up on the hill past Prospect with his loyal beagle named Spot. He was a devoted husband who was also a caregiver for his wife until her passing and had a special bond with his only child and daughter Donna. He was a lifetime member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board and attended faithfully until he became ill in February. Friends received from 5 to 8 PM Friday August 30, 2019 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, the Rev. Clyde Williams, Jr. officiating, Committal Richland Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Moskal-Reid Funeral Home.
