Olga Ready (nee Roman) passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Ascension Home in Conroe, Texas. She was the beloved wife of the late Forest Ready of 60 years and was preceded in death by her cherished daughter, Elaine Alice (Rick) Wheetley; three brothers: Isador, John (Irene), and Matthew (Nancy) Roman: and three sisters: Marie (Mickey) Sulich, Ann (Al) Doran (Tony) Forauer, and Marge Ann (Albert) Dewey. She is survived by one son, Jeffery (Pam) Ready of Spring, TX, and one daughter, Mary Beth Ready, of The Woodlands, TX, three grandchildren, Laurie (Nate) Ashe of Virginia, Jeffery (Julie) Ready of Tennessee, Genevieve Wheetley of Valparaiso, four great-grandchildren, Forest, Maggie and Raechel Ashe of Virginia and Zoe Ready of New York. She is also survived by two step-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. Olga and Forest raised their own children as well as helped raise their granddaughter, 3 1/2-year-old Genevieve, after the death of her daughter at the age 33. Olga Ready was born on May 5, 1920 in Whiting, Indiana to John and Mary (Germick) Roman and was a resident of Whiting, Griffith and Calumet Township for 83 years and a resident of The Woodlands, Texas for 16 years. She was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1938 and was member of St. Mary’s Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church for 28 years in Whiting. Upon moving to Griffith, she became a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and remained for 55 years. After moving to Texas, she was a member of St Anthony of Padua and St Simon and Jude Catholic Churches. Olga was a founding member of St. Mary’s Altar, Rosary and Sacred Heart Society as well as First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 30 years. As a youth she worked in the Home Restaurant, located in Whiting that was owned by the family. Olga was known for her love of holidays and, particularly loved 4th of July. Her last holiday at the age of 99 was spent in the Texas heat at the 4th of July parade. She was quite a seamstress in her day and loved to make costumes for children’s ballet recitals. Olga and Forest loved dancing and roller skating in their youth. Olga enjoyed life to the fullest and Olga will be remember as always asking for a shot and a beer at holiday get togethers. Devoted to her family, she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 31, at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Griffith, Indiana. Burial will be directly after at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, Indiana. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday from 3-7 PM at the White Funeral Home, 921 West 45th Ave in Griffith.
