Mary’s Obituary Mary Louise Bates, age 88, of Brooks, Kentucky returned to her Heavenly Father on August 25, 2019. She was born in Letcher County, Kentucky on November 25, 1930 to the late Herbert and Dixie Duncil. Ms. Bates was a God-loving Christian woman and a member of Maryville Baptist Church. She was always encouraging all she met to be ready for the Lord’s return. She was described as selfless and warm-hearted. She was dedicated to her family and loved them dearly. Ms. Bates will be greatly missed She is preceded in death by four brothers and sisters, Jimmie, Faye, Joe and Gay. She is survived by her children, Billie Pennington (Kenneth), Sherry Taylor (Rick), Jr. Bates (Dianne) and Barry Bates; grandchildren, Angela, Robert, Christy, Heather and Felicia; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2018 at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood, & Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy at Brooks Rd.) with burial in Hebron Cemetery to follow. Friends and family may pay their respects on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Read More
