John Edward Swartz June 06, 1933 – August 10, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation John Edward Swartz, 86, passed away on Saturday August 10, 2019 surrounded by his wife and children. John was born in Loogootee, Indiana on June 6, 1933 to Luther Earl Swartz and Helen Susan Essig. They moved to Washington, Indiana when John was 4 years old. He graduated from Washington Catholic High School in 1951. He graduated from Purdue University in 1955 with a degree in Chemical Engineering and was drafted into the U.S. Army where he spent 16 months in Germany in the 56th FA BN. After his discharge, he went to work in Terre Haute, Indiana where he met and married Emily Jo Joseph on August 16, 1958. After moving to Louisiana and California, they moved back to Indiana where John earned his Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University. They then moved to Alvin, Texas where they stayed for over 50 years. During this time, he worked for Monsanto, Conoco, DuPont, Cain and Occidental Chemical Companies, retiring in 1993. He is survived by Emily, his wife of over 60 years, 3 daughters and their spouses, Celine and Heinz Siewert, Celeste and Willy Massoth and Colette and Kelly Singletary; 2 sons Jack Swartz and Patrick and spouse Julie Swartz. John also has 13 grandchildren: John Swartz III and spouse Paola, Alicia and Collin Pitts, Amanda and JW Breeden, Toni Danielle and Casey Riley, Kristin Swartz, Kaitlyn O’Pry, Christian Siewert, Chantelle Siewert, Destiny Massoth, Joseph Massoth, Alex Singletary, Noah Singletary, Emily Singletary and Josie Singletary. John also has 3 great grandchildren: Brennen Pitts, Riley Breeden and Kennedy Breeden. He is also survived by his sister Mary Sue Baerman and husband Gene and brother Joseph Michael Swartz and wife Jane. He also leaves behind numerous relatives and friends. John was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for over 50 years, the Knights of Columbus for over 63 years and was a Charter Member of the Alvin-Manvel Council #6403. Pall Bearers will be John’s sons and grandsons: Jack Swartz, Pat Swartz, John Swartz III, Christian Siewert, Alex Singletary, Noah Singletary, and Joseph Massoth. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Alvin with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at St. John’s with interment to follow in the Confederate Cemetery.
