Dorothy Lois Burke July 22, 1923 – August 18, 2019 Dorothy Lois Burke LOIS BURKE, 96, of Broken Bow, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019, in Oklahoma City. Lois was born in Hochatown on July 22, 1923, to Ben and Noba Kincaid. She was raised as an active member of the Hochatown Community Church and attended the Hochatown School. As the oldest child, she did not start school until she was seven years old because she had to walk to school by herself three miles from the family home at the end of the road north of Hochatown. She dated Eugene Burke before he was drafted for service in the U.S. Army during World War II. Lois and Gene were married on January 26, 1946, in DeQueen, Arkansas, 11 days after he returned from Europe. On August 5, 1948, their only child, Bobby Gene Burke, was born at their two-room house on North Broadway in Broken Bow. In 1965, Lois and Gene started Burke Insurance. During the many years Gene was county commissioner, Lois managed the insurance agency and made thousands of friends. A Pentecostal her entire life, she was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Broken Bow since 1946 and played the organ and taught the two-year old Sunday School class for decades. She loved her family, cooking, gardening, oil painting, and rock collecting. She greatly enjoyed traveling from coast to coast, often stopping along the way to admire a flower she had never seen before. She was a 40-year member of the Harris Home Demonstration Club and was an avid genealogist. Until she was 93, with the help of her neighbor, J.C. Brown, Lois planted a garden each year and frequently shared the bounty with family and friends. Lois loved to play the piano and sing. Even when she moved to Oklahoma City to an assisted living center near her son, her piano accompanied her. Often, she would go to the piano room and be surrounded by many of her fellow residents as she played and sang old hymns. She was a faithful Christian until the end. Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Eugene; her parents, Ben and Noba Kincaid; her sister, Louise Webb; and her first grandchild, Rev. Robert Burke. Lois is survived by her son, Bob Burke and wife Chimene, of Oklahoma City; her brother, Naaman Kincaid and wife Yelena of Mount Herman; her sister, Naomi Kincaid of Mount Herman; granddaughter Amy Jaques and husband Wes of Edmond, OK; grandson Cody Burke of Greenville, SC; granddaughter-in-law Rev. Deborah Burke of Oklahoma City; and step-granddaughters Natalie Taylor and husband Matt of Oklahoma City, Lauren Webb and husband Daniel of Oklahoma City, and Calli Wood of Fort Collins, Colorado; ten great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life Services will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at 2pm, at the Brumley Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Bow, OK. Burial will follow at the Hochatown Cemetery in Hochatown, OK.
