Betty’s Obituary Betty Turnipseed began her next chapter – in Eternity with our Lord – on 26 August 2019. “Betts”, as she was known to family/friends, was born in Washington Iowa on 14 July 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband Daryl Turnipseed and her Mom and Dad, Letha and Isaac Kleese, all of Washington Iowa. Betty and Daryl were long time residents of Garland, Texas, where Betty worked at Varo Inc before becoming a full-time “SuperMom” in 1958. After raising her two children, Betty went back to work as an employment counselor at Snelling and Snelling, where she helped many aspiring workers match their skills to gainful employment. She loved helping others in that capacity. Even more than that, Betty loved volunteering. She could always be seen at Garland ballparks, coordinating events as a perennial Team Mom and working in concession stands serving others during games. She was active in the Parent Teacher Association at W.C. Warren Elementary School in Garland. Always the giver, she was first to volunteer to shuttle kids on field trips and to help plan school parties/carnivals. After both she and Daryl survived cancer, Betty became determined to pay forward the great treatment they had received. For 15 years, Betty faithfully volunteered helping patients at Texas Oncology in Mesquite Texas, with selfless moral and emotional support. Her supervisor there said this about Betty’s selflessness: “Our dear Betty is one of the very dedicated volunteers at the Texas Oncology of Mesquite. If you were to ask the patients, I know they would say ‘Betty gives me hope and courage to face another day’ . She is a beautiful person, both inside and out. She has the grace about her that just makes you feel good to be around her. Every cancer center needs a BETTY. We know how fortunate we are to have her…..and most important how happy she makes the patients.” “Betts” is survived by her daughter Darla Mixon and son-in-law Keith Waters of Grand Prairie Texas; son Gary Turnipseed and daughter-in-law Cathy Turnipseed of Xenia Ohio; grandchildren Angela Moruzzi of Denver Colorado and Brian Turnipseed of Charlotte North Carolina; sister Mary Jo Norris of Rockwall Texas; brother Ed Kleese of Washington Iowa, and seven nieces and nephews and their growing families. Betty’s Memorial Service will be at Williams Funeral Home in Garland Texas on 7 September 2019 at 2 p.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to www.rufftransport.org Ruff Transport is a bonafide animal rescue organization that Betty ardently supported and all donations are tax deductible.
