July 25 2019
Paul F. Kozub, 72, of Homer passed away on July 25, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, surrounded by his family. Paul was a generous and loving husband, father, and grandfather, and his family was his greatest joy. Paul was born in Erie County in 1947 and graduated from Hamburg High School in 1964. From 1964 to 1968 he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an Air Policeman. Upon leaving the military, he attended Auburn Community College, graduating in 1970. He and his beloved wife, Elaine, met at Auburn Community College in 1969 and were married on July 31, 1971. He went on to SUNY Oswego, graduating in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts Education. In 1972, he joined the faculty of the Homer Central School District as a high school Industrial Arts teacher. When the Homer Junior High School opened, he joined the faculty to teach Technology Education until his retirement in 2005. He loved teaching and his students and firmly believed in the capacity of all students to succeed. Paul was an accomplished carpenter who built his own home and others in Homer/Cortland, donated his skills to St. Margaret’s Church, and devoted countless hours to building and renovating the homes of his sons and their families. In his free time and in retirement, Paul enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening, and RV traveling with Elaine and their dog, Maggie. Above all, “Papa Paul” treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren, watching them swim in the pool, toasting marshmallows over the campfire, unsnarling their fishing lines, or remembering that pie and ice cream are the most important parts of family meals. He was a gentle, friendly soul with a puckish sense of humor and generous heart. He will be missed by all who knew him, but especially by the family that he cherished and put first in his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine (Patience) Kozub, son Christopher Kozub (Andrea Zlotucha) and grandchildren, Rose and Asher, of Spafford, son Jeremy Kozub (Kathy Van Santen) and grandchildren, Abigail and Riley, of Aurelius, and Amanda Kozub of Homer, and his sisters, Patricia Cieslica and Louise Soda, of Orchard Park. Calling hours on Wednesday, July 31 from 4:00-6:00 at at St Margaret’s Church, 14 Copeland Avenue, Homer. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 1, at 12:00, followed by internment at St Mary’s Cemetery in Cortland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute of Boston in recognition of their groundbreaking research that led to a cure for Paul’s cancer in 2017.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Paul F Kozub July 25 2019.
