He was 83 years old, dearly loved, and will be missed by many. Paul was born on September 12, 1935 in Denison, Texas. A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, he married his high school sweetheart, Vicki, on September 8, 1956. He attended the University of Texas and was a lifelong Longhorn football fan. From 1956 to 1960, Paul served in the U.S. Navy, working on the USS Ranger as a radar technician. In 1960, he joined his father and brother as a part-owner of Dad & Lad’s Menswear, a premier men’s clothing company in the city. He was at Dad & Lad’s for 30 years, and the store closed in 1990. Vicki, Paul and their children moved to Plano in 1967. During his 52 years as a Plano resident, Paul served as a city councilman and as a member of the Planning & Zoning Commission. Paul loved and was loved by many — especially his family. Though he was a man of few words, many people were privy to his dry sense of humor, funny stories, endearing laugh, affectionate nicknames, thoughtful cards and sharp wit. Paul always had a joke ready to tell — several of his grandchildren say he was the funniest man they knew — but his own stories and jokes often tickled himself the most. Whether sending children’s valentine’s cards to his grown daughters, or giving his grandchildren special jobs to do, Paul knew how to make the people in his life feel special, and he always made them smile. Paul was a man of many pastimes, and he shared his passions with the people around him. When he was a child, Paul began building and flying model airplanes and his love for the hobby became a lifelong passion. He built hundreds of free-flight and radio control planes of all sizes, flying them regularly in open fields with friends and family. He was also an avid hunter, and shared his love for hunting deer and dove with his son, Jimmy. His daughters remember many summers camping with their father at the lake — there; they would play together, water ski, and scheme about his next filming project. After he retired, he did a crossword puzzle every day, often asking his wife or visitors to his home for input. Paul loved God, and his faith was of the utmost importance in his life. He was a member of Chase Oaks Church in Plano, and his family finds comfort in knowing that he is now with his Heavenly Father. Paul is survived by his wife, Vicki McManus of Plano; children Cindy Clemens (Scott) of Dallas, Valerie Neslage (Tim) of Wichita, Kansas and Camille Wenokur (Jay Taylor) of Dallas; grandchildren Michael McManus, Jeffrey McManus, Tessi Skinner, Paul Neslage, Justin Wenokur, Kyle Wenokur, Kevin Neslage, Katelyn Beeby, Aubrey Clemens and Denis Clemens; and 14 great-grandchildren. Paul is preceded in death by his son, James “Jimmy” Michael McManus, and parents, CJ McManus, Sr. and Pearl McManus. We will always remember Paul fondly, and know his legacy will live on for many years to come. A memorial service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Allen Family Funeral Options, Plano, Texas.
