Lucille Katherine (May) Bertsch, 93, of Fairfield passed away at Benefis Teton Medical Center, in Choteau on July 23, 2019 of natural causes. Lucille was born to John and Dorothy May on February 23, 1926 in Wolf Creek, Montana. She was the 2nd oldest child of 20. As a young woman she cleaned railroad cars during World War II and worked at the Aragon Café in Fairfield as a Waitress. She married Raymond Bertsch on September 15, 1947 in Circle, Montana even though they lived in Fairfield. Lucille had a daycare and nursery school in her home where she babysat for 95 children over a 28 year period, between 1969 and 1997, 35 of which were babies and 15 of those babies she had until kindergarten. During those same years Lucille had 152 children in nursery school over a 15 year period. Children were very special to her and she was special to them. She loved to sew, crochet and quilt. Lucille was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Kasper (1986) and her husband Raymond (1991), her parents and 14 siblings. Lucille is survived by her daughter Linda McClure of Nampa, ID and her son Darrell Bertsch of Fairfield, MT. 3 grandsons Jason and Brock McClure of Nampa, ID and Mitchell Kasper of Fairfield and 1 great grandson Isaac McClure. Lucille’s Siblings include Juanita Oakley of Fairfield, MT ; Robert May of Carson City, NV; and Laverne Cox, Dolly Boyd, Deola Comstock, Leroy May and Patsy Morano all of Great Falls, MT. Burial will take place at Sunset Hills Cemetery for family only, under the direction of Gorder-Jensen Funeral Home. No Funeral Service is planned.
