Lester’s Obituary Lester R. Tyson, 92, of Souderton, PA, formerly of Perkasie, PA went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 12, 2019 at Grand View Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Josephine (Moyer) Tyson for 60 years. Lester was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania to the late Raymond H. Tyson and the late Martha (Moore) Tyson. He graduated from Doylestown High School, class of 1944. Lester was employed as a delivery truck driver for Sommer Maid Creamery for more than 15 years and then for C.D. Moyer Meat Co. in Silverdale for 12 years. He then worked as a meat packer for Hatfield Quality Meats in Hatfield for 14 years and later as a part-time transport aide at Grand View Hospital in Sellersville for more than 10 years. As a young man, Lester was a member of Doylestown Mennonite Church. After marrying Josephine, he was a member of St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Perkasie where he was a former Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. Lester also served as a Church Council member. During 1945 and 1946, as a conscientious objector, he served in Civilian Public Service at Luray, VA, Three Rivers, CA and Howard, RI. After retirement, Lester volunteered at Grand View Hospital as a Lay Chaplain and patient transporter as well as with Meals on Wheels in Perkasie. He was also a devotion leader at the Souderton Mennonite Homes. He was an avid reader who enjoyed reading novels and scripture. Lester also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing games especially Pinochle, and watching the Flyers. He loved spending time with his family. Lester had a strong faith and was a very social, personable man who was committed to his wife and family. He is survived by his four children, Dale L. Tyson & wife, Sonia of Hillsborough, NJ, Donald L. Tyson & wife, Julie of Rockingham, VA, Jane M. Fallstick & husband, Karl of Quakertown, PA, Glen K. Tyson & wife, Rachel of Sellersville, PA; his 12 grandchildren – Nilza, Reina, Ben, Joshua, Phil, Stephanie, Christina, Elizabeth, Stephen, Sarah, Nicole, & Krista; and his five great-grandchildren – Tyson, Landon, Abigail, Aimee, & Cora Jo. In addition to his parents and wife, Lester was preceded in death by his brother, Millard M. Tyson and his sister, Esther R. Tyson. Viewings will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 W. Summit St, Souderton, PA and on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 20 Dill Avenue, Perkasie, Pennsylvania 18944. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dill & Chestnut St, Perkasie, Pennsylvania 18944. Burial will take place at St. Andrew’s Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 20 Dill Avenue, Perkasie, PA 18944.
