July 28 2019
John’s Obituary John Henry Robinson was born on August 23, 1942, the sixth child born to the late Thomas Edward Robinson and Loretta Brown Robinson in Caroline County, VA. He transitioned to his heavenly home on July 28, 2019, at his home in Upper Marlboro, MD. John was educated in Caroline County public schools. At the age of 19, he relocated to Washington, DC, and began his work career at Standard Leasing in Hyattsville, MD, where he detailed cars and transported vehicles back and forth to Detroit. After leaving Standard Leasing, he worked at various construction companies building the subway system in the Washington DC area. After over 30 years in the construction industry, he retired from Mergentime Construction in 1995. Once he retired, he became known in the neighborhood for keeping lawns immaculate and neatly cut. He and his brother Willie also spent a lot of time together on their boats, up and down the east coast looking for fish. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and was trying his best to get out on his boat this spring. He was a member of the Sunshine Hunting Club, along with his brothers Willie, Bernard and Mushie and loved spending time with the guys in the woods and at the clubhouse. He enjoyed watching the Golden State Warriors, especially the baby-faced assassin Steph Curry, and rooting for anyone who was playing against the Redskins. His favorite hobby was playing with his great-grannies. He was a devoted and loving Papa. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 55 years, Joyce; two daughters, Kelley Brooks of Upper Marlboro, MD, and Brigitte Donald and her husband Norman of Ruther Glen, VA; granddaughter, Toneah Roberson and her husband Kendrick of Upper Marlboro, MD; great-grandchildren, Kendrick, KenDrez, Keniyah and Kenaz John (KJ); goddaughter, Kina, and her husband Terrell of Bowie, MD; five brothers, James Robinson of Spotsylvania, VA, Melvin Robinson of Hyattsville, MD, Willie Robinson of Spotsylvania, VA, Earl Bernard Robinson of Ruther Glen, VA, and Jackie Ray Robinson of Bowling Green, VA; two sisters, Dorothy White of Woodford, VA, and Alice Smith of Fredericksburg, VA; three sisters-in-law, Delores Robinson, Barbara Robinson and Gilda Robinson; four brothers-in-law, William Mines, Earl Twisdale, Leonard White and Herbert Smith; three aunts, Lelia Carter, Cora Coates and Gloria Chatman; devoted friends, Joe Holly, Brian Armstrong and Tony Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and friends. During his illness, he was comforted and visited daily by devoted niece Dominique Evans and cousin Susan Jackson as well as other dedicated nieces who made frequent phone calls and visits. A viewing will be held on Friday, August 2, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at A. L.
