Helen Truett Dixon of Terrell passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord on the morning of July 5, 2019. She was born June 20, 1930 in Alexander City, Alabama to the late Joseph Loyd and Lillie Mae (Tucker) East, both of whom preceded her in death as well as her husbands, Grady Truett and Jimmy Dixon, sister, Louise Truett and son-in-law John Mackey. Helen was very active in sports in high school and she played semi-pro basketball for Russell Athletics where she had the opportunity to travel all over the United States in competitions and games. In 1964, she and Grady moved to Terrell where she became active in the Coffee Cup Bowling League for many years where she made many long lasting friendships. Helen was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Terrell where her beloved smile and gracious personality embodied exactly who Jesus wants each of us to be as we serve others. Helen also worked for Waylon’s Hair Fashions for over 30 years where her talent at hairdressing enabled her to have a loyal and steadfast clientele. She loved to fish and travel and time spent with family was her favorite time of all. A lovely woman who was a true Southern lady in every sense of the word, Helen will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughters, Judy Truett Mackey of Terrell and Kathy Truett Berry of Terrell; grandchildren: Sacha Dronet, Paige Nolen Courtney and husband Aurthur, Shane Nolen and wife, Jennifer; great granddaughter, Addie Nolen; sister, Chat Richardson of New Site, Alabama. Her family also included Butch Wheeler, her handpicked son, his wife Judy of Greenville and his children, (all of whom she considered grandchildren): Randy Wheeler, Mark Wheeler and Cheryl Weideman: stepchildren Benny Dixon and wife Cindy, Debra Evans and husband Danny, Jimmy Dixon Jr. and their children as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and a host of friends. Funeral service will be 12:00 pm, Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with family receiving friends beginning at 11:00am to service time. A graveside will be held Thursday, July 11, 2019, at Hillview Memorial Park in Alexander City, Alabama. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to The First United Methodist Church, 503 W. College St. Terrell, Tx 75160 or to the charity of your choice.
