Mrs. Hazel (Camp) Thompson Bailey entered this world on November 20, 1929 to her parents, the late Luke and Cora Camp. Born in Winder, Georgia, she was one of eighteen children. She passed away peacefully on July 25, 2019 at Friendship Health and Rehab, Cleveland Ga. A few years after her birth, the family moved to Gainesville, Georgia. Early in her life she graduated from Beulah Rucker Industrial School in Gainesville. After high school, Hazel married C.B. Thompson; they happily shared over twenty years together. Several years after his death, she married L.C. Bailey and they were together until his death. During her lifetime she touched the lives and hearts of so many people with her kindness, thoughtfulness, and loving nature. Well-known for her flawless seamstress skills, she designed and sewed multiple outfits for both men and women who were often repeat customers. She was also an active member of Phi Lambda Zeta Sorority for Christian Women where she was prominent in their fundraising activities. She joined St. Paul UMC at an early age. Later in life she joined Bethel AME Church. Both churches located in Gainesville Georgia. She loved singing and was a dedicated choir member at each church. Additionally, you could always count on Hazel for a delicious home cooked meal, a ride to almost anywhere, nice furniture when you needed it, and great advice along with a kind word and a beautiful smile. Hazel is survived by two sisters: Lois (Camp) Lytle and Mary Doris (Camp) Thomas, both of Gainesville Ga. Two sisters-in-law: Clarissa Camp and Mary Camp. both of Gainesville, Ga. A step-son, Willie T. Hardy of California and numerous Bailey step-children of Flowery Branch. Her nieces Peggye Robertson Davenport, Barese “Doby” Lytle Watkins-Hope (L.O.), Angela Thomas Middleton (Ricky Garrett), Gala Thomas Sheats (Ron), Stephanie Camp Lemons (David), Sheryl Camp Hendrix (Anthony); her nephews: Anthony “Miller” Robertson (Janice), Elderick “Dinky” Lytle (Janice), Warrace A. Lytle (Xuemei), and Maurice Thomas. Numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by her long-time friends, Andrew and Betty Boyd Lewis and their daughters, Jennifer, Susanna, Rebecca and Abby as well as family members and friends who were blessed to have known her.
