Memorial services for George R. “Dick” Lawrence, age 86 of Lindale, TX, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2019 at the Columbarium of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Mineola, TX with Canon Jerry Morriss officiating and under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale, TX. Dick passed away Friday, June 21, 2019 in Tyler, TX. He was born on May 1, 1933 in Potsdam, NY to the late George and Beatrice (Carliss) Lawrence. He enlisted in the US Army in 1950 and served in Korea where he was wounded twice and received a medical retirement in 1952. Dick worked for Herberts Mens wear for several years before moving to Texas in 1977 for health reasons. Dick’s first Marriage ended in divorce. He married Phyllis Woods Baxter on July 6, 1968. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2018 at a party hosted by Jeanne Baxter Jordan at the VFW in Grand Saline, TX. Dick loved golf and played for many years until his health deteriorated. He was also an extremely accomplished woodcarver having won many awards at exhibitions. He also loved singing and had a great voice as a crooner. Dick is survived by his wife Phyllis Lawrence of Lindale, TX; children, Jeffrey Lawrence and wife, Linda of Vancouver, BC, Debra Tanner of Ottawa, Ontario, Jeanne (Baxter) Jordan of Quitman, TX, Stephen Baxter and wife, Renee of Potsdam, NY, Scott Baxter and companion, Vicky Bartlett of Colton, NY, Michael Baxter of New York, and Jill Baxter of Kentucky; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
