George Eugene White, age 74 born August 16, 1944, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 7, 2019. He was the son of the late George and Belva White of Newport, TN. He was a veteran of the United States Navy (1963-1967) where he attained the rank of Petty Officer 2nd class; stationed at Norfolk, VA and served as a radar man and assault boat coxswain aboard the USS Fremont-APA-44. He was on alert in the Caribbean following the Cuban Missile Crisis and made several cruise deployments to the Mediterranean Sea. He retired from Premium Waters in Greeneville, TN where he was employed as an industrial maintenance technician. He enjoyed playing golf and his grandchildren. He was a devoted member and deacon at West End Baptist Church in Newport, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Daniel and Paul White; father and mother-in-law Jerry and Elsie Wilds of Del Rio, TN; and sisters-in-law Winnie and Angela Wilds. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Bureda Wilds White; daughter Emily Ellison of Dandridge; son Rev. John White and wife Leslie of Weaverville, NC; brothers and sisters-in-law Roy and Yvonne Sluder of Del Rio and Parker and Nannette Wilds of Parrottsville; grandchildren Evan and Emerson Ellison and Justin and Olivia White; nephews Rev. Dustin Wilds and wife Letisha of Cleveland, TN and Dennis wilds and wife Sierra of Newport; nieces Amber White Miller of Dandridge and Savanah White of Knoxville; and lifelong friend Robert and Pansy Fullington and family of Bybee, TN. The family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to all the family and friends for the prayers, food, and visitation. A special “Thanks” to Dr. David Schumaker and Staff at Tennessee Cancer Specialist and Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice. The family will receive friends at the West End Baptist Church, 116 West End Street, Newport, TN from 12:00-1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 9, 2019 with funeral service following at 1:00 pm at the Church. Rev. Dustin Wilds and Pastor Tom Mooty officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Dandridge, TN. Pallbearers will be Robert Fullington of Bybee, Dale Burris of New Market, Jim Brown of White Pine, Parker Wilds, Rev. Dustin Wilds, and Evan and Emerson Ellison. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church, 116 West End Street, Newport, TN 37821 or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society- Tennessee Chapter, 404 BNA Drive, Suite 102, Nashville, TN 37217.
