Genevieve’s Obituary Genevieve Doyle, 97, of Cottage Grove, MN, passed away Thursday evening, July 25, 2019 at White Pine Senior Living. Genevieve Mae Smith was born July 4, 1922, in Silverton, OH, the daughter of Peter Raymond and Agnes Marie (Matt) Smith. She graduated from St. Mary’s in Phoenix, AZ in 1940, and earned a Bachelor’s degree from NDSU. Genevieve met D.E. “John” Doyle at a USO church dance in Phoenix and were married on October 26, 1948 in Phoenix. They made their home in Jamestown, ND where they were blessed with ten children. Genevieve was an artist and illustrator for the American Indian Curriculum Development Program, which illustrated the history of the United Tribes and used in most ND public school systems. She was a commercial artist, had many one-woman shows in North Dakota (the first in Jamestown), California, Arizona, Montana, and Minnesota, winning many awards for her artwork. Genevieve taught art classes for Jamestown Park & Rec for 11 years and was an art director and teacher for religion through the art program at St. John’s Academy. She also taught art methods for elementary schools, a teachers’ course at Jamestown College and was instrumental in founding the Art Center in Jamestown. Genevieve also was an assistant director for volunteer services at the North Dakota State Hospital. She was a board member of the Upper Midwest Association of Artists and Past President of Jamestown Fine Arts Association. She and John moved to Minneapolis in 1977 and John passed away in 1997. Genevieve is survived by her children, John (Anne) Doyle, Seattle, WA, Rayanne Dahl, Morgantown, WV, Pam Schwind, Montrose, MN, Genny (Alan) Lindberg, Jamestown, Gail Doyle (Dale Ritter), Chokio, MN; and Lisa Doyle, Fargo, ND; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Kent Lawrence, New Brighton, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Jeanne Lawrence; sons, David, Matt, and Chester Doyle; grandson, Donald Schwind, Jr.; and sister, Mary Agnes Corbett.
