Frank Koehn, known to many in the Fairview area as Smiley and as Pa-Pa Moo to his great-grandchildren, was born on March 21, 1925 in Deep Creek, Oklahoma (Major County) to Simon and Tillie (Casper) Koehn and passed from this life on July 28, 2019 at the Clinton Veterans Center in Clinton, Oklahoma at the age of 94. Frank grew up in rural Major County just outside of Isabella, Oklahoma attending school through the 6th grade. He helped his parents on their farm until receiving his draft notice at the age of 19 from the U.S. Army. In May 1945 he was seriously injured in the Philippines and left for dead, but through the Lord’s intervention he was found and later evacuated to the United States to Camp Ritchie, Maryland. While a patient there he met his future wife, Jean Dederick, who was a nurse. They later married on April 27, 1946 in Hagerstown, Maryland. After their discharge they moved to Fairview, Oklahoma to begin their life together and start a family. Frank worked many different jobs including the Santa Fe Railroad, helping build the highway through the Gloss Mountains, but the one he finally settled on was owning and operating his own auto repair shop, wrecker service and salvage yard. He also enjoyed farming and raising livestock. As an active member of the Fairview community he served in the American Legion King Hagen Post 51, the Veterans of Foreign War, which he started in Major County, the Auxiliary Police Force, and the Lion’s Club. He attended Cedar Springs Church of the Nazarene. He would help anyone in need no matter the time of day; this was just how Frank lived his life in service for others. Frank lived and worked on his farm in Major County until a fall required him to move to the Clinton Veterans Center in Clinton, Oklahoma.in February 2014. During his stay there he made many new friends and they fell in love with him and his smile. Frank is survived by one daughter, Carol Young and husband Larry of Fairview, one son, Frank I Koehn Jr. of Fairview; three grandsons, Todd Young and wife Mindy of Chandler, Craig Young and wife Angie of Chickasha, and Matt Young of Chandler; one granddaughter, Kristina Koehn; 7 great-grandchildren; one sister, Thelma McDonald of Decatur, Arkansas; many nieces and nephews and a wealth of friends.
