Elizabeth Andrews Doyle July 15 2019

July 15 2019
Elizabeth Jane Andrews Cullen Doyle, 81, of West Hartford, suddenly departed us and entered eternal life with God on Monday, July 15, 2019. Born in Hartford on November 13, 1937, Betty was the oldest child and only daughter of the late Elizabeth (Curry) and Raymond Sherwood Andrews Sr. Raised in East Hartford, Betty graduated from the Mount Saint Joseph Academy, followed by a year at Bay Path University, and completed her baccalaureate at Saint Joseph College in West Hartford. Her studies in psychology and behavior studies deeply affected Betty’s desire to support special education throughout her life. Betty was an insurance analyst at Connecticut General Insurance Company in Bloomfield before marrying Thomas M. Cullen of East Hartford and devoting her life to her family, children, and grandchildren. Her passion for teaching and early childhood education was evident in her devotion as mother, teacher, and grandmother. Betty spent many years teaching nursery school as well as volunteering in the schools her children attended and supporting the many activities her children were involved in including the PTA and Boy Scouts. Her role as “mother” was her full-time job and passion. Residing in West Hartford since 1979, Betty operated a joyful day-care business, followed by administrative roles for local medical practices, the Connecticut Office of Probate Court Administrator, and then a long career as office manager at the Church of St. Helena. During her decades at St. Helena, Betty was also a dedicated parishioner and involved in many activities of the Church including the Parish Council and religious education. A devout Catholic, Betty celebrated life through her deep relationship with God, her family, her children, her grandchildren and her loving and loyal friends. Her life has touched so very many people and her departure from this Earth has left a tremendous void. Betty is survived by her children and their spouses: Thomas and Mary Cullen of Novato, CA, James Cullen of West Hartford, Kathleen and William Sisson of Avon, and Donald and Deanna Cullen of Watertown; her 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Caitlin, Brian, Thérèse, and Kelly Ann Cullen; William, Nicole, Thomas, and Andrew Sisson; and Michael and Robert Cullen. She also leaves her siblings and their spouses Raymond and Barbara Andrews, Paul (deceased) and Virginia Andrews; and Gregory and former spouse Mary Jo Andrews; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, devoted friends, and extended family. Betty is also predeceased by her twin daughters, Laurie Anne and Lisa Marie, and her second husband, Edward T. Doyle. Betty’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 23 from 4 until 7 pm at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue in West Hartford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, 11:00 am, at the Church of St. Helena, 30 Echo Lane, West Hartford. Burial will follow at the family plot at Center Cemetery in East Hartford, where she joins six generations of family. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Gengras Center School at the University of Saint Joseph, 1678 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, as Betty was so extremely passionate about children, special needs, and education.
