Douglas’ Obituary Chula Vista, CA – Douglas R. Pratte, 71, died June 21, 2019 unexpectedly at his home in California after surviving major health issues over the last five years. Several days before his passing he participated in a car show in San Marino with friends giving advice and passing judgment on the display vehicles. Born April 6, 1948 in Exeter, he was the son of Arthur W. and Irene C. (Baillargeon) Pratte. He is survived by his sister Linda Pratte Worden and brother Dennis Pratte of New Hampshire. He leaves behind nieces and grandnieces, nephews and grandnephews in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Arizona, and several cousins. Mr. Pratte – Doug – was born in New Hampshire and went to San Diego in the early 1980’s. He started his employment in San Diego by working for Spar Wilcox at RSVP Automotive. Doug was commissioned to build a replica Cobra which turned out to be a highly photographed poster automobile. This project is where we all learned the perfectionist and craftsman the Doug truly was. He loved building Cobras but his true passion was the Corvette. Doug was a kind and caring man who always put others before himself. He participated in the “Touch a Truck” – formerly Max’s Ring of Fire, a program benefiting “Beat Nb (Neuroblastoma)” Foundation. This program, now in its tenth year, is dedicated to funding the discovery and testing of new treatments for kids battling cancer. He was very generous with his time and was truly someone that you could count on to be there if you needed help with anything. He was well known in the automobile restoration industry. He was a builder, designer, restorer, fabricator, painter, mechanic, and engineer. His wealth of knowledge was immeasurable. He worked with Allen Holmes of the Fine Car Store and participated in a number of unique fabrications on classic cars. He had a longtime connection with many collectors in La Jolla including, Chuck Spielman of Only Yesterday, Joseph “Chicky” Glickman, Neal Wichard, Rick Adams (noted Bugatti collector), Keith Wahl MD and Michael Dorvillier, Chairman of the La Jolla Concourse D’Elegance. Doug was there at the inception of a small local event that became the La Jolla Concourse D’Elegance which recently celebrated its 15th year donating to many charitable causes. With Doug’s extensive experience restoring and building Corvettes and Cobras, he served as a judge of these cars for many years. One of Doug’s unique character traits was that he never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was someone you could lean on if you had a problem and know that he would do anything he could to help you fix what you were dealing with. He had many friends and was beloved by his friends, employers, business associates and the Refinery Church. He was a historian, self-acclaimed biblical scholar and intensely devoted to his church. At seventy-one years of age, he had many more years to give to those friends he cared about and to those causes for which he was passionate and devoted. He will be profoundly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Beat Nb Southern California (beatnb.org/) or Refinery Church. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket with Rev. Don Clinton officiating.
