August 2 1942 July 25 2019
Doris G. Simpson, 76, a resident of Martinsville, was welcomed home in the arms of Jesus at 7:35 pm on Thursday, July 25, 2019 after months of failing health. She was one of thirteen children born to the late Colonel Mark and Myrtle G. (Trett) Ridener and was born on August 2, 1942 in Somerset, Kentucky. Doris moved to Martinsville from Kentucky in 1959, just after she married her beloved husband, Larry Joe Simpson on August 13, 1959; he preceded her in death on December 13, 2012. Doris was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and a longtime member of the Way of the Cross Church in Martinsville. She loved to listen to gospel music, watch game shows and soap operas, play bingo, visit casinos and above all, she cherished time with her family. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her friends and family including her son, Danny (wife, Angie) Simpson of Martinsville; two daughters, Donna (husband, Terry) Hutchison and Debbie (husband, Wayne) McBride all of Martinsville; two brothers, Donnes (wife, Marie) Ridener and Gary Wayne (wife, Crystal) Ridener all of Martinsville; two sisters, Judy Green of Martinsville and Betty Bowling of Tampa, FL; 24 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. She was looking forward to the birth of her first great great grandchild, which was expected yet this year. Sadly, Doris experienced loss far too often during her 76 years of life. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry Simpson; three sons, Timothy Ray Simpson, Richard Simpson and Russell Soots; five brothers, Clyde, Ernest, Homer, Vernon and Donald Ridener; three sisters, Mildred Faye Creech, Joyce Ridener and one infant and two grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, July 30th from 6:00 pm -8:00 pm and from 12 noon – 1:00 pm on Wednesday at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. A service celebrating Doris’s life will be on Wednesday, July 31st beginning at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Following the service, she will be laid to rest beside her late husband in White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville, Indiana. Memories and condolences may be shared with the Doris’s family online at
