Daniel Appleton,(aka Apple), 71, passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at home with his loving family by his side. Born in Springfield on June 3, 1948, son of the late Wilbert D. and Elizabeth F. (Godwin) Appleton, he attended local schools and graduated from Technical High School in 1966 and later from STCC. He was drafted into the army infantry on August 28, 1968, was a veteran of the Vietnam War and received the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert M14, Marksman M16, and two Overseas Service Bars. Upon his honorable discharge in 1974 he worked for 10 years at Hank’s Auto Service in Springfield and then in Wilbraham. He then worked at Northeast Utilities for 30 years retiring in 2011 as an overhead lineman. He lived in Chicopee for many years and was a member of First Central Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school teacher, deacon, youth leader and loved going on mission trips. Dan also loved long rides on his motorcycle, the beach, kayaking on lakes and enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sport’s events. Daniel is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Dianne (Shea) Appleton; a daughter Amy Robb and husband Andrew of East Longmeadow, son Matthew Appleton and wife Jenny of Michigan, brother Donald and wife Sally of Westfield, eleven grandchildren of whom he was very proud Olivia, Micah, Jacob, Landon, Luke, Ellie, Zachary, Gavin, Norah, Sadie and William, and several nieces and nephews. Daniel was predeceased by his sister, Dianne Irzyk. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Central Bible Church, 50 Broadway St., Chicopee, on Saturday at 1pm.
