September 8 1953 June 29 2019
Charlotte Shumane Bozeman, was born September 8, 1953 in Gary, Indiana. She was the eldest daughter of Charles Sr. and Delores Bozeman. Charlotte graduated with honors from Gary West Side High School Class of 1971. She furthered her education graduating from Indiana University with her Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education majoring in English. On September 7, 1974 Charlotte married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life Howard Anderson Sr. As a result of this union, four children were loved and raised in the fear and admonition of the Lord and encouraged to pursue excellence in all aspects of life and use all the gifts God has given wherever possible. She demonstrated these beliefs by her own actions. Throughout her life, her hands were busy. In her early days of marriage, Charlotte assisted at The Jesus Shop with her mother-in-love, Ruth Hardena Anderson, who was the sole-proprietor. She also worked at the main branch of the Gary Public Library. Eventually, God used Charlotte’s gift of teaching in various locations throughout the city of Gary. As an employee of the Gary Community School System, she held both permanent and temporary positions as needed and was often called upon by specific Principals who saw her effectiveness with students. She even taught in private schools such as M.C. Bennet Holiness School and became both an administrator and teacher at “Be A Winner Academy”. A school established by her father-in-love, Reverend James Anderson, Pastor of the Washington Street Church of God. She followed his vision to help with the education of children and often children who had been cast aside and needed not just education but mercy and compassion. Her continued growth of faith in Jesus Christ and education resulted in the formation of Faith Academy Preschool, where faith values and learning were instilled in all children who attended and most of those students went on to be honors students throughout their school careers. Additionally, Charlotte, along with her husband Howard, served the community by becoming a water safety instructor, swimming instructor, water aerobics instructor, and organized the Water Babies Swimming Program at the YWCA. Charlotte’s most cherished accomplishment was being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and receiving the precious gift of the Holy Ghost in her youth at Logan Park Assembly of Christ Church where she remained a lifetime member, beginning at age one. She served faithfully under the leadership of Bishop George L. Stearnes, emeritus as a choir member, an anointed Sunday school teacher, baptismal committee member, prayer room worker, convention committee chairman, overseer for vacation bible school, originator for the praise worship leaders, the organizer for the entire Junior Sunday School Christmas and Resurrection Programs, the scripture reader for bible class and end of service announcements. She also served as Treasurer of the Northwest Indiana District Young People Union and the ABSA Council. Whatever her hands found to do, she did for the benefit of God’s people. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Sr. and Delores Bozeman, parents-in-love, Reverend James A. Sr.and First Lady Ruth Hardena Anderson, and her first-born daughter Shawn Shumane George.
