Mercatili, 50, of Orefield, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Margaret L. (Castronova) Mercatili to whom he was married 16 years. Born in Goshen, Orange County, NY, September 5, 1968, he was the son of Julia E. (Nardi) Mercatili of Warwick, NY and the late Peter D. Mercatili, Sr. Stephen was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Orefield. Steve was a devoted husband to his wife, Peggy, and dedicated father to his two children, Peter and Helena. He enjoyed coaching his son’s basketball team and cheering for both his children at their baseball and softball games. Steve was so proud of his family and all that they had accomplished .His passion for life and genuine love of people, coupled with his infectious smile and warm spirit, endeared him to all. Steve welcomed anyone into his life and quickly made them part of his family. He had a humble soul and a gracious heart and was the most generous person you knew. Steve was passionate about his cooking and took great pride in his “second kitchen.” He mastered the secret family recipes that were passed down from his father. His greatest joy was making Italian sausage, porchetta, ribs and stromboli. Steve showed his love through his food and enjoyed cooking for family, friends and work colleagues. Steve was a true New York Giants fan. His passion for his team, together with his signature dish, fajitas, made him legendary at Giants’ tailgates. As a Senior Network Analyst, Steve’s unwavering commitment and dedication to his job made him an integral asset to MIAX. He loved going to work every day and took pride in his accomplishments. Steve’s colleagues were like family. Cracking jokes and telling stories were a featured part of every work day. Survivors: In addition to his wife and mother; children, Peter R. Mercatili and Helena I. Mercatili both at home; siblings, Peter D. Mercatili, Jr. of Colonia, NJ, Daniel Mercatili and his wife, Yasmina of Cummings, GA, Marcella A. Krauss and her husband, Steven of Pleasantville, NY; predeceased by a brother, Vincent J. Mercatili. Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 1879 Applewood Drive, Orefield, PA. The Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Wargo will be the celebrant. Family and friends may pay their respects from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Monday in the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville and 11:00 – 11:50 am. Tuesday in the church. Interment will follow the Mass at Resurrection Cemetery, Wescosville. Online expressions of sympathy may be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com.
