Saturday, July 6, 2019 in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel. SFC (Retired) Barry “Big Bear” Ludenia, 71 years old, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday June 25th, 2019 in Lawton, Oklahoma. Barry was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Marion (Oslund) and Wilfred Ludenia on November 3, 1947. He was the second oldest of four children. Growing up he loved in Rochester, New York and Kentucky before his family moved back to Minneapolis. He enlisted in the US Army in 1967 at 19 years old. He did two tours in the Vietnam War. While in the Army he was stationed in Germany, Turkey, and Greece. After the war he left the Army and went back to Minneapolis and began working in construction building bridges in the Twin Cities. During the time he wasn’t in the Army he continued his shenanigans with his friends and also met the love of his life, Hattie Crittenden. He always said it was love at first sight when he saw her. Friends of his said it was a hook, line, sinker when he had asked for her phone number and she told him no. Of course, he kept asking the rest of the night, because he could never back down from a challenge. They married in 1973 in St. Paul, Minnesota with family and close friends on his birthday so he would never forget an anniversary. Together they had two children, Richard and Christine. After being stationed on Fort Sill they decided to settle in Lawton. Barry retired as a Sergeant First Class in 1992 after 20 years in the Army. Following his retirement he took happiness in many things. He coached his daughter’s elementary t-ball team for 3 years, going to powwows and gourd dancing, making his own walking sticks, annoying his little sister by always picking the Packers over the Vikings, and spending kids with his grandkids. He is survived by his wife of forty-five years Hattie of the home, son Richard Ludenia and wife Amy of St.Paul, Minnesota; daughter Christine Plumley and husband Jason of Lawton, Oklahoma; older sister Cheryl Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; little sister Margret “Mugs” Enstad and husband Bruce of Minneapolis, Minnesota, five grandkids; Christeena Holwerda of Grantsburg, Wisconsin; Michael Lundgren and Maddie Lundgren of Minnesota, Sean Ludenia of Grantsburg, Wisconsin; and Jason Plumley of Lawton, Oklahoma. Barry is preceeded in death by his parents, great grandmother, little brother Mark Ludenia, brothers- in- law and sisters- in- law and his best friend Keith Ostuka. He will be remembered as a wonderful man who would always make you laugh with his stories of his crazy antics.
