Edison, N.J. — Sebastian Manuel Malamug, 82, died Thursday, June 6, 2019 in his hometown of Tuguegarao, Cagayan, Philippines following a brief illness. He is survived by his two sons, Erasmus and Sebastian the II, daughter, Leilani Holgado; his sister Norma and brother Theodore. Nine grandchildren – Kirsten, Naomi, Estelle, Sydney, Anabelle, Adam, Christian, Brienna, and Donovan. Born and raised in Tuguegarao. Son of Florentino and Teofila Malamug. Mr. Malamug or as Uncle Eras as he was known to everyone was a sweet, kind, loving, and gentle man. Always willing to talk to anyone for hours on end. In his early years, Mr. Malamug served as a Colonel in the Philippine Army. It was during his assignment stationed in Batangas that he would meet his future wife, Flordeliza Ramos. In 1969, he immigrated to Newark, N.J. in the United States. He obtained a position as Bookkeeper in Newark in a Five & Dime store for a number of years then worked as an Accountant at the Mart Furniture Gallery in Union for twenty-five years. A devout grandfather always willing to take his grandkids out for ice cream. The joy and laughter he brought around to his grandkids and other people will surely be missed. A Wake will be held on Sunday June 16th at Gosselin Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. in Edison, NJ. A Funeral service will be held on June 17th 8:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a 9:30 AM Mass at St. Helena’s in Edison, N.J. followed by Entombment at St. Gertrude’s in Colonia.
