Obituary of Randy Scarborough Randy Wayne Scarborough, 70, of Abilene, passed away on June 14, 2019. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2019 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Rev. Larry Baird will officiate. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Visitation will be Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Randy was born in Abilene, Texas on August 22, 1948. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where he met and married Patricia Lynn “Pat” McClendon on March 18, 1969 until her passing in 1999. He later married Glenda Snyder who also predeceased him. He was a 1966 graduate of Wylie High School prior to enlisting into the US Army. Randy was a freight despatcher for several motor freight lines starting with Merchants Motor Freight, Yellow Freight System and retiring from ABF Motor Freight in 2005. Following his retirement, he moved to Eastland, Texas to enjoy the lake life. He then purchased the Lake Leon Bait and BBQ store in which he ran for several year prior to returning to Abilene, Texas where he was currently employed. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the United States Army. Randy was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, the Vietnam Campaign medal, with two overseas bars, and the Expert Rifle Medal. He departed from service on September 29, 1972 as a Specialist E-4. He was actively involved with the Vietnam Veterans annual TET Offensive Reunion, and a member of the American Legion Post 57 of Abilene. He was also a life member of the VFW Eastland, Texas. Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Randolph and Lessie Scarborough, his first wife Pat, second wife Glenda, and a granddaughter Jorey Nicole Beasley. Randy is survived by his friend and companion Mary Andrews; one son, Russell Scarborough and wife Jodi of Lubbock; one daughter, Pam Scarborough King and husband Darwin King of Anson; three step-daughters and their husbands, Pamela Higgs and Steven, Jamie Roberts and Thomas all of Abilene, and Linda Fields and Terry of Ovalo; sister, Sharon Doster and husband Thomas of Abilene; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family of Randy wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Frazier, lead nurse Scot and the entire nursing team of Hendrick Medical Center, as well as Randy’s heroic coworkers, Mason, Jenny, Aliz, Valerie and the employees of WalMart Hwy 351.
