Nelson’s Obituary Nelson Elwood Showalter, 78, of Broadway, VA passed away June 11, 2019 at Sentara RMH Medical Center. He was born August 21, 1940 in Rockingham County, and was a son of the late Wade Vance and Dorothy Berry Showalter. Nelson worked at Neff Lumber Mills for 25 years, without missing a day, before retiring. He was a proud auctioneer. He loved car shows, and bluegrass music. He was a U.S. veteran. On November 25, 1970 he married Arvilla Mae Showalter, who survives. Also surviving is one son, Ricky Lee Showalter; one granddaughter, Tiffany Alice Showalter; three sisters, Ruby Pence, Pearl Keister, Marie Combs; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Sue Showalter; brothers, Richard and Clarence Showalter; and his sister, Nina Zirkle. Pastor Ken Fox will conduct a funeral service 12:00 PM Friday at Cedar Run Church of the Brethren in Broadway. Burial will be in the Whitmer Family Cemetery in Fulks Run. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Thursday at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway. Memorial contributions may be made to Cedar Run Church of the Brethren, or Grandle Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses. Read More
