Mary Jane “M.J.” Lawrence, 66, of Evansville, passed away Monday, June 24, 2019 at her home. MJ was born July 12, 1952 to the late Eugene and Marie (Weber) Dewig. After her mother Marie’s death, MJ went to live with and was raised by her late uncle and aunt, Norman and Viola “Katie” Dewig. She worked as a registered nurse at Deaconess Hospital for many years and in later years at the westside Walmart. MJ dearly loved her granddaughter, Ali and cherished the time she spent with her. Surviving MJ are her son, Michael Shanks; daughter, Melissa Rickard; sisters, Diana Risinger, Joyce Gehlhausen, Pat Hess and Paula Dewig; brothers, Reggie Dewig and Dan Poett and her granddaughter, Alison Shanks. In addition to her parents, MJ was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Fehrenbacher and by an infant brother, Gerald Dewig. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. John Brosmer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 6:00 PM on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street. Condolences may be made online at www.pierrefuneralhome.com.
