Aged 93, born June 2nd 1926 in Pleszew, Poland. Sister of Barbara Basinski, Marylka Dudziak, Janina Jawniak, and Wojtek Polak. Mother of Alicia and Andrew (Laurie) Ziemlo. Grandmother of Kristofer (Klaudyna) Ziemlo, Michael, Kalina, and Tony Ziemlo. Great grandmother to Kody and Kyle Ziemlo. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Krystyna endured and survived WWIIs worst moments including being forced out of her homeland of Poland by gunpoint in 1940 to Siberia. She lost her mother and baby sister in the process. She and the rest of her siblings escaped the Soviet Union in 1942 and traveled to Persia (Iran) for 3 years. Then to Lebanon for 2 years, through Iraq, Palestine, Israel then to Egypt where she finally met up with her father in 1947. She then moved on to England for about 5 years and finally to the United States. She spent a year in New York where she eventually settled in Chicago IL. She married Stephan Ziemlo who she had met in her travel’s years before and by coincidence again in Chicago. She had 2 children Alicia and Andrew. She raised them with Stephan for 15 years, then alone for the next 4-10 years. She stayed in Chicago and worked in clothing sales which is fitting because she had a degree in tailoring but was never allowed to pursue it. She worked for several boutiques and finally retired at the age of 75 from a women’s clothing store in Park Ridge. She was always independent and took public transportation. She was always the healthiest, never going to doctors despite smoking and making her own drink affectionately known as “babcia” by some. “Lemons and warm” Stolat. She was very proud to have such a large family, especially one with so many first-generation children and their children. She was always the liveliest of the bunch, “the life of the party”. Many knew how much she loved to dance, there is lots of photographic evidence. Krystyna was always first to ask you, “where you were from, what language do you speak” and your family’s history. One thing that stood out in her advice was as long as your mind was healthy, nothing else mattered. “what you see with your own eyes, no one can take that away from you” was also another antidote she shared, as so much was taken from her, it rings truth in all aspects of the phrase. Her history has shown how strong and how much of fighter she was on her incredibly long journey through life. Visitation at the Skaja Terrace Funeral Home 7812 N. Milwaukee Avenue Niles on Sunday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral Monday 9:00 AM to St. Tarcissus Church Mass 10:00 AM. Interment Maryhill Cemetery. Funeral info: 847-966-7302. Nastepne 2 lata spedzili w Libanie; potem Irak, Palestyna, Izrael i Egipt, gdzie Krystyna odnalazla sie z jej ojcem w 1947 r. Razem mieli dwojke dzieci: Alicia i Andrew, ktore wychowywali wspolnie prze 15 lat, a potem Krystyna wychowywala dzieci sama przez 4 do 10 lat. Zawsze byla niezalezna i korzystala z transport publicznego.
