He was born in Groveton, Texas, on July 31, 1937 to Howard Van and Addie (Suggs) Clark. Joe worked for Hallettsville ISD for 42 years, serving as a teacher, coach and principal. After his retirement, he worked for the University of Houston in Victoria as a student teacher supervisor. Joe graduated from Groveton High School in 1955. After graduation, he attended Texas Christian University on a football scholarship. He graduated from Texas Christian University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. On June 6, 1959, he married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Davidson, at First Baptist Church in Groveton. They moved to Hallettsville in 1959 and were blessed with three children, two daughters, Angie and Sherri and son Keivan. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Education from Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1964. Joe was a loving dedicated Christian man, husband, dad, and Pop. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hallettsville where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, member of the choir, drove the church bus, and mowed the church lawn for many years. Joe was an avid sports fan. He coached many Little League teams for numerous years. He attended the sporting events of his children, grandchildren and great grandchild. His favorite hobby was golfing. He enjoyed numerous hours on the golf course. Joe is survived by: his wife Barbara Clark; his children, Angie Rother & husband Jack of Cypress, Keivan Clark & wife Mary of New Braunfels, and Sherri Michalec & husband Tim of Shiner; his seven grandchildren, Hailey Steinocher & husband Brian, Taylor Clark, Lauren Boehm & husband Bucky, Ashley Franz & husband Kolby, Allie Rother, Reilly Clark, and Blake Michalec; and 3 great-grandchildren, Emersyn Boehm, Charlotte Boehm and Harrison Steinocher Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Van and Addie (Suggs) Clark. Funeral Service: 10 am, Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 5 pm to 7 pm, Tuesday at Kubena Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Reilly Clark, Blake Michalec, Tim Michalec, Jack Rother, Bucky Boehm, Brian Steinocher, Kolby Franz. Honorary Pallbearers: Hailey Steinocher, Taylor Clark, Lauren Boehm, Ashley Franz, and Allie Rother. Officiant: Pastor Nick Ferguson. Memorials (in lieu of flowers): First Baptist Church of Hallettsville or Donor’s Choice. Burial: Hallettsville City Cemetery.
