George J Lowe July 10, 1935 – June 04, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of George Lowe of Tama, Iowa. George left this earth peacefully in his home, after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by the family who loved him dearly. At that time, he was under the care of Iowa River Hospice for only seven days. George was born July 10, 1935 to Wade and Margaret (Kriegel) Low of Tama. He married the love of his life, Mary Hurt on June 10, 1956. Together they had three children who became the center of their life. After 43 years devoted to working at Lennox Industries in Marshalltown George retired in 1998. He wasn’t the type to sit around doing nothing, so he started fixing up wrecked cars. You would often find him in his driveway tinkering with a car to resell. He was never in it for the money. Knowing that he was helping someone else out was value enough for George. George was able to tour almost every state, including Alaska on his Harley Davidson. He would make friends with everyone along the way. There was no such thing as a stranger to him. George loved his yearly trip to Sturgis, South Dakota during bike week. He would spend all his time people watching and making more friends. It didn’t matter to him if they were wearing a suit or a Hell’s Angel vest – he never judged anyone. He was so proud when his two grandsons and son-in-law were able to ride alongside him on this yearly journey. Through the years George had mastered the ability to make people laugh and smile. He was always teasing and you never knew when he was serious or not. His life was a living example of how we should all live – kind, generous, honest, sincere, loyal, and positive every day. Even when the doctor said there was nothing he could do, George simply said “Well, we all have to go someday.” There is one thing for sure that was important to George – his family and friends. He was an outstanding provider, incredible father, phenomenal grandpa and loyal friend to so many. He took extreme pride in his grandchildren, he would have never said it, but we’re sure Anna was the favorite being she was his only granddaughter. He did everything for his family and would give the shirt off his back to a complete stranger. It would never be possible to sum up George’s life in a few short paragraphs. His life was complete, satisfying and full of love. He leaves behind hundreds of Harley shirts, containers of bolts and screws, a garage full of things you just might need someday and memories that will fill our hearts forever. George is survived by his wife Mary; his daughters Lori (Dave) Baier, and Linda Lowe Glendy; his grandchildren Josh Lowe (Miranda Wieben), Aaron Glendy, Adam Glendy (Marissa Keller – who George always called Melissa) and Anna Glendy; his nephew Jim Hala, his wife Pam and their daughter Olivia; his longtime loyal friend Dick Davidson; four sisters, a brother-in-law; and numerous friends. George has now been reunited with his son, Robert Lowe; his parents; grandparents; father and mother-in-law Louis and Agnes Hurt; sisters-in-law Helen Hala and Mildred Foreman; two nieces and a brother.
