Gary’s Obituary U.S. Navy veteran, Gary Gene Warthen, passed away Monday, June 24, 2019 at the Ardmore Veterans Center, at the age of 65 years and 11 months. Gary was born July 24, 1953 at Corpus Christi, Texas to Wayne Arnold Warthen and Jacqueline Baird Warthen. His early years were spent in Ringling, before moving to Ardmore, where he lived most of his life. In his youth Gary was a drummer and enjoyed playing music. He had been the chef and manager of the Sirloin Stockade restaurant in Ardmore and was a member of the Blue Ribbon Missionary Baptist Church. Gary served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, during the Persian Gulf War. Rated as an expert pistol shot, Gary was awarded the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal. An avid ‘face-booker’ , Gary also enjoyed playing the games on facebook. However, his greatest enjoyment was his two canine buddies, “Dog” and Marty” that he treated like his children. Gary is survived by his father, Wayne A. Warthen; a sister, Sherry Johnson and her husband, Kendall, his brother, Andy Warthen , many nieces and nephews.
