Memorial services for Ernest Wesley Holland, 88, of Athens, are scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home. Mr. Holland passed away May 25, 2019 in Athens. He was born November 7, 1930 in Henryetta, Oklahoma to the late Zeddock Holland and Nancy (Herriman) Holland. He served in the United States Army. Ernest held a Master’s degree and spent his career as a professor and foreign student advisor at Henderson County Junior College. He was very studious, spent much time reading, writing poetry and spoke three languages, English, Spanish and German. He was a member of the Pisgah Baptist Church and the Sons of the American Revolution. Ernest enjoyed gardening, building and traveling. He is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister. Survivors include wife, Nettie Holland of Athens; children, Teresa Jane Wall and husband Louis of Athens, Nancy Elaine Moore and husband Robert of El Paso, Jason Holland and wife Angela of Mabank, Dennis Holland and wife Vitaloria of Waco and Candace Trent and husband Guy of Mineola; sisters, Delphia Reimer and husband Harold of Bakersfield, California and Darlene Brandon of Tyler; and nine grandchildren.
