Charles (known by Chuck to his friends) spent the last few years of his life in Lehi and Provo Utah; however, he and his wife Dorothy were long-time residents of Simi Valley California. Charles was born and raised in Lehi, Utah. After serving in the US Army Signal Corps during the Korean War and serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Africa, Charles met and married his sweetheart Dorothy in 1955 while attending college. In 1970, Charles’ work duties changed to assignments permanently situated in Southern California where he and Dorothy maintained a home for over 45 years. Charles was known for his strong and durable testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He was always willing and eager to serve in church assignments and callings, including scout leader, Branch President, Ward Seventies Group Leader, Bishopric Counselor, Young Mens’ Quorum adviser, and Ward High Priest Group Leader Assistant. Charles and Dorothy served together as full-time missionaries in the Dublin, Ireland Mission and (a few years later) the Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission. They also served together as ordinance workers in the Los Angles Temple. Charles is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Arva Smith (Price, UT). He is survived by his siblings Jeddah Monson (West Bountiful, UT), Julian Mercer (Lehi, UT), and William Mercer (Menan, ID).
