Ben Shelton “Peter” Benton, 74, passed away on Friday at his home surrounded by his family. Peter was born in Wayne County on November 13, 1944 to the late Johnny Ransom Benton and Bernice Frances Lane Benton. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Peter worked with Coble Dairy for 20 years and retired from National Welders Supply Company after 21 years of service. He was a member of Pikeville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 23, 2019 from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Pikeville P.F.W.B. Church followed by a service to celebrate Peter’s life at 6 p.m. with Pastor Mark Whitfield and Rev. Dr. Don Sauls officiating. Interment will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, June 24, 2019 in the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military honors. Peter is survived by his wife, Mary M. Benton; children, Wayne Shelton Benton and wife Cyndy of Snow Hill, Scott Daniel Tadlock and wife Toni of Pikeville, Vicky Lancaster and husband Eric of Pikeville and Steven Christian Tadlock and wife Michelle of Goldsboro; brother, Billy Ray Benton and wife Joyce of Fremont; sister, Sara Frances Hales and husband Earl of Pikeville; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his best friend, Kenneth Howell of Pikeville and mother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Buck Monk of the home. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to The Pikeville P.F.W.B. Church, 336 Nahunta Road, Pikeville, NC 27863.
