Audrey J. Eckstein, 92, of Champaign, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Meadowbrook Health Center in Urbana, IL. Audrey was born on December 19, 1926 in Logan, West Virginia, a daughter of Millard and Mollie (Adkins) Keyser. She married Roy A. Matsler on December 30, 1953. He died on October 6, 1969. She later married Charles J. Eckstein on May 2, 1975. He died on October 20, 2010. Survivors include: a sister, Mary Lou Edeburn of South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Peggy Brand of Urbana, Ina Eckstein of Tolono and Julie Eckstein of Olney; four step-children, Gary (Marcia) Eckstein of Manteno, Paula (Dave) Hoerner of Chenoa, Bernard Eckstein of Arizona, and Timothy Eckstein of Tolono. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Audrey was employed by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad in Huntington, WV. She went on to work for Champaign County, as the Supervisor of Assessments and later for Illinois Employment Security, earning retirement in 1990. Audrey loved going to Sunday School and reading the bible. Her homemade cornbread was fabulous and she was also known for making fresh lemon pie. Two of her favorite activities were dancing and playing cards with friends. The visitation will be from 10:00-11:00am on Monday, June 17 at Owens Funeral Home (101 N. Elm St.) in Champaign, with the funeral service at 11:00. Pastor Brian Rummery will officiate. Burial will be at Woodmere Memorial Park in Huntington, WV at 2:30pm on Tuesday June 18, 2019.
