Sonja I. Carey, 78, of Gardners, PA passed away, Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at her residence. She was born November 4, 1940 in Toland, PA to the late Glenn and Eva Beam and was the widow of Dean A. Carey, who passed away in 1968. Sonja worked for Knouse Foods in the canning line and was a member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Carlisle. She loved animals, especially birds and enjoyed gardening. Surviving are her children, Vickie Carey of Gardners, PA, Randal A. Carey of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Dean C. Carey of Gardners, PA; 2 grandchildren and; 1 great-grandchild. In addition, she is survived by her siblings, Latricia Smith of Gardners, Janet and Glenn Carey of Gardners and Deila Kuhn of Boiling Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sonja was preceded in death by her son, Brian Eugene Carey, who passed away in 1985. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2019 in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1 Mooredale Dr., Carlisle, PA 17015 with Brothers, Edgar Dorsey and Dan Doerer officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
