Thompson will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2019 in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon James Hankins of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. SFC (Retired) George N. Thompson, 87, Lawton, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019 in Lawton with his family at his side. SFC (Retired) George N. Thompson was born on February 4, 1932 in Roosevelt, Oklahoma to Rube and Juanita (Settles) Thompson. He attended school in Roosevelt and graduated with an Associate’s degree from Cameron University. George enlisted in the United States Army in 1952 and married Lorenza Cardona on November 4, 1960 in Lawton. He served his country in Germany, Korea and Vietnam until his retirement in 1975. While in the Army George earned the following awards, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, the Expert Qualification Badge, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal (4 awards), the Vietnam Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Following his retirement from the Army George worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Lawton until his retirement in 1995. George was a wonderful husband, father, and papa that loved his family very much. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also loved car races. Survivors include his wife of 58 years of the home, two daughters, Brenda Riley and husband Dan of Lawton and Belinda McDonald and husband Tom of Faxon; Four grandchildren and their spouses, Tara and KC Jones, Kayla Rowley and fiancé Justin Jackson, Kendra and Jacob Lovelady, all of Lawton, and Shayne McDonald and fiancé Kali Faught, Purcell; Six great-grandchildren, Aiden and Rylan Jones, Grey Jackson, Braedon McDonald and Ava Lovelady, and Brody Crank. George was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Margie Horton and husband Carroll, and nephew Curtis Horton. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6525 N.
