Obituary of Robert Croy Byrd Funeral services for Robert Croy, “Poodle” Bryd, will be held on Monday, June 3, 2019 at 10:00 am at First Christian Church in Lovington, NM with Bro. Wayne Kinman officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Mr. Byrd was born on June 2, 1941 in Lovington, NM to William C. and Charlcia F. (Croy) Byrd and passed away on May 28, 2019 in Lubbock, TX. Better known by all as “Poodle”, he was a country boy at heart. He grew up in Monument, going to school there and then working in the oilfield as a roustabout and also in trucking. He helped on the Byrd Ranch and was really good with horses as he loved his horses and enjoyed riding and roping. He helped with the Special Rodeo at Fair time each year and the kids loved him. He participated in the Pony Express Ride, the Grand entry at rodeo and was a member of the Sheriff’s Posse at one time. One of his passions was dancing; he truly loved to dance and was excellent at it, especially the two-step and waltz. He was also a prankster and loved to tease his family and friends. Poodle was a very strong man, a good man who never met a stranger, a little set in his ways and could be just a little ornery but he had the biggest cowboy heart of anyone! He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Wanda Sue Byrd; two brothers: William C. Jr and Raymond Lee Byrd. Surviving him is one brother: J.R “Redbird” and wife Joann Byrd of Monument, NM; Nephew and wife who have been his anchor: Jacky and wife Loretta Byrd and numerous other nephews and nieces, great-nephews and nieces and a host of friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2019 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
