Obituary for Joseph “Joe The Hat” Ruta Jr. Joseph Ruta, Jr, “Joe the Hat”, 93, of Leesburg, FL was born June 23, 1925 in Mount Morris, NY and passed away May 28, 2019. Joe was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp serving in both WWII and the Korean War. He worked as a machinist and as such, loved to tinker. He had many hobbies including working in community theatre where he garnered his nickname and was a long time member of the BPOE (Elks Lodge) where he was a Past Exalted Ruler in Webster, NY. Mr. Ruta moved to The Villages, FL in 1991 and later to Leesburg in 2012 where he resided until his death. A loving and beloved father and grandfather, survivors include: sons Glenn (Kandy) and Ronald (Michele) Ruta of Rochester, NY; daughter Diane (David Lamb) Boorum of Leesburg, FL; 6 grandchildren;6 great grandchildren; brother Louis (Frankie) Ruta; sister Mary Calzone; sister in law Beverly Ruta; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Rose in 1998. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of Beyers Funeral Home in Leesburg on Saturday June 1, 2019 beginning at 4 PM.
