John Alan Baker, 58, of Lilburn, passed quietly in his sleep Thursday, May 23, 2019 at his home. He had been ill for a while. He was born December 4, 1960 in Atlanta, GA and was one of four children born to Virgil D. Baker, III of Stone Mountain, GA and the late Helen “Betty” Baker. John was a graduate of Dekalb Technical College. He was employed by United Airlines and the last several years for Travelport in Marietta, GA. John was also affiliated with the Walnut Grove Masonic Lodge #703 and Snellville Masonic Lodge #99. He was also with the OES Decatur Chapter #148 which was absorbed by Electa #6 and Snellville Chapter #513. He had a great love for music and was talented at playing a variety of musical instruments. He participated in the music program for many years at Norcross Praise Fellowship and later Suwanee Station Family Life Center. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen “Betty” Baker. Survivors include three children; daughter, Joni Elizabeth Baker, and sons, Matthew Alan Baker and Samuel Alexander Baker. He also leaves his father, Virgil D. Baker III and three siblings. Brother and sister-in-law, Virgil “Dren” Baker, IV, and Karen Owen Baker, and Ryan Glenn Baker, his nephew; sister and brother-in-law, Laura Baker Miller and Richard Alan Miller and nephews, Robert Alan Miller and Mark Andrew Miller and niece, Laura Ashley Miller; sister and brother-in-law, Helen Baker Skelton and Ronald Skelton, nephew, David Michael Jones, niece, Amanda Rene Jones, and great niece, Suzan Elizabeth Jones. John was a wonderful father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be truly missed. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
