Dixie L. Morlen, age 74 of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, May 08, 2019, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. She was born on April 30, 1945, in Highland, IL, the daughter of Willard and Edith (nee Steiner) Maden. On December 16, 1967 she married Dale A. Morlen at E & R Church in Troy, IL. He passed away on March 21, 2015. She was a former member of Business & Professional Women’s Club and participated with 2 card clubs. Dixie grew up in Troy, IL and graduated Triad High School in 1963. She attended Stevens College in Columbia, MO. She returned to Troy, then lived in Granite City, St. Charles, MO, and Highland, IL in 1970. She started Picket Fence Child’s Clothing Store in 1975. She was an avid crafter. She was a talented painter and proficient with oils and water color, and very artistic. She loved animals and always had a dog. She and her husband started Highland Animal Shelter. Klaus, Highland, IL She was preceded in death by : Father – Willard “Shiek” Maden – Died 3/28/1972 Mother – Edith “Eppie” Maden nee Steiner – Died 9/17/2001 Husband – Dale A. Morlen – Died 3/21/2015 Step Grandchild – Caleb Michael Taylor – Died 12/26/2013 Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, May 13, 2019, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Funeral Service/Mass will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Rev. Leonard Pye officiating. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery, Highland, IL in Highland, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Animal Shelter.
