Mary’s Obituary George Calvin Harris, age 89, passed away quietly surrounded by his loving family on April 23, 2019. George was born to the late George Enos and Margaret May (nee Opfer) Harris in Wiley, PA, on March 23, 1930. While a long-time accountant, he was introduced to sales. George went on to own and operate his own businesses—Design Printing and ABC Business Systems. He retired from the US Naval Reserves after serving his country 20 years. George and Mary Jean, his wife of 68 years, were very active in their churches, most recently Ambassador Baptist in Rittman, OH. They were both involved in Sunday school programs, and George, with his love of music, joined church choirs. George and Mary Jean were both active with American Red Cross blood drives and big fans of the Cleveland Indians baseball team. George was additionally very active with the Gideon’s Society. Mary Jean Harris (nee Wilson), age 89, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2019, with her daughter by her bedside. Mary Jean was born to the late Frank D. and Lucile (nee Gilmore) Wilson in Bedford Heights, OH. Mary Jean met George while they were both employed at Republic Steel. She held several different part-time jobs throughout the course of her work career and later assisted George with his businesses. Her favorite job was babysitting and caring for children. Mary Jean also had a passion for gardening, visiting amusement parks and receiving visits from her favorite furkids, Jethro and Bosco. George and Mary Jean are survived by their daughter, Bonnie Harris of North Royalton, OH. George is survived by his siblings Wesley (Faith Ann), Fred C. (Elaine), and Donna Fresenko (Warren, deceased). They are both survived by numerous nieces and nephews, many cousins, especially Calvin Opfer, who was like a brother to George, and many dear friends. George and Mary Jean were preceded in death by their parents, an infant daughter, Susanne, and an infant son, Mark. Mary Jean was also preceded in death by her brother Leonard Wilson and his wife Kathryn. The family would like to thank sincerely the wonderful teams at Plum Creek Assisted Living and Kindred Hospice for their kind, compassionate and professional care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of George and Mary Jean be made to: Kindred Hospice, 4401 Rockside Road #214, Independence, OH, 44131; Ambassador Baptist Church, 620 Trease Road, Wadsworth, OH, 44281; or Strongsville United Methodist Church, 13500 Royalton Road, Strongsville, OH, 44136. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, May 24, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m., at Waite & Son Funeral Home, located at 765 N. Court Street in Medina, OH. Pastor Mike Decker will officiate. A private family burial with military honors will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, OH, at a later date.
