James “Jim” P. Helsel May 9, 1940 – March 28, 2019 James “Jim” P. Helsel, 78, Altoona passed away peacefully on Thursday surrounded by his loving family. Born in Altoona, Jim was the son of the late Fredrick Sr and Shirley (Garth) Helsel. He is survived by his wife Joyce (Wingard) Helsel; 3 daughters Kimberly Helsel of Imler, Becky Cooper of Altoona and Cindy Pooler of Altoona; a son Steve Helsel; Brother Clair “Butch” Helsel; as well as grandchildren Josua and Abigail Gonsman. Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother Fredrick Jr and sister Joycelynn Kiser. Jim graduated from Altoona High School before joining the US Army to serve his country. After his time in the service Jim worked for Stroehmann Bread and became a member of the Jafa Shrine. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday April 6, 2019 at the Grace Bible Church,164 Laurel Ln, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648. Pastor Lou Hileman will be officiating.
