Mr. Bob Taylor Oakley, affectionately known by many as “Daddy Bob”, age 95, of the Dry Fork Community in Brush Creek, TN, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019. Mr. Bob was born December 8, 1923 in Temperance Hall, TN, a son of the late Arthur Oakley and Lassie Parker. He married Virginia Paris Oakley in July of 1946 and she preceded him in death after 48 years of marriage on February 14, 1995. Mr. Oakley was also preceded by Sons; Bobby Gerald Oakley and Terry Campbell Oakley, Daughters; Cynthia Oakley Vantrease and Bobbi Jo Oakley Ezell, Grandson; Jody Paris Vantrease, and Siblings; Alf, Frankie, George, Howard, Francis, Thomas, and Clyde. Mr. Oakley was a 45 year member of the Southside Lions Club. He participated with the club handing out water for Chad’s Run and raising money during White Cane Day. Mr. Bob loved helping the club during their regular eye tests of elementary students, handing out stickers to the kids after test completion. He was also a staple member of the club during Gordonsville High School Football season, always greeting the crowd and selling programs. Mr. Oakley was a longtime member of the Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was very involved, serving as a Deacon and Elder. He was a lifelong farmer and avid vegetable gardener, raising his first corn crop at the age of 9. Daddy Bob will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Mr. Oakley is survived by Daughter; Nancy (Fred) Smith of Dekalb County, TN. Granddaughters; Terri Lynn Oakley of St Louis, MO, and Kam (Wayne) Phillips of Dixon Springs, TN. Grandsons; Jeremie (Deanne) Smith of Mt. Juliet, TN, Brandon Johnson of Brush Creek, TN, Bob (Felicia) Vantrease of Hickman, TN, and Jarid (Karen) Smith of Nashville, TN. Great-grandchildren; Josh Johnson, John Taylor Johnson, Kelsey Vantrease, Paige Vantrease, Madeline Smith, Zachary Smith, Jacob Smith, Sarah Smith, John Oakley Phillips, and Jason Phillips, Sam Miano, and Tyler Miano. Step-great granddaughters; Ashleigh Phillip and Morgan Phillips. Great-Great grandson; Bo Dylan Vantrease. Sister-in-Law; Betty Jo Hackett Manning. Funeral Services for Mr. Oakley are scheduled to be conducted from the Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 3PM with Bro. Dennis Croslin officiating. Interment will follow in the Brush Creek Cemetery. Visitation with the Family will be at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Tuesday from 2PM until 8PM and at the Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Wednesday after 11AM until service time at 3PM. The family requests memorials in Mr. Bob’s memory be made to the Southside Lions Club or to the Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
