He was raised and received his education in Salem, SD. Following high school, Roger joined the Army National Guard and also served honorably in the United States Air Force. Following his basic training, Roger was united in marriage with Carole Lewis in Humboldt, SD on December 27, 1957. The couple began their lives together in Great Falls, MT, but also spent time in Salem, SD, Rapid City, SD, and Mitchell, SD, before ultimately settling in Sioux Falls, SD to raise their five beautiful children. Roger and Carole retired to lake life in Watertown, SD, but then returned to Sioux Falls, SD in 2008 as their grandkids began to start their own families. Roger spent over 31 years working in the telephone industry before retiring from Qwest in 1990. In his retirement, Roger worked at the Sioux Falls and Watertown Menards for over 10 years while simultaneously building his dream lake home. Roger worked hard to be a master of all trades. He built lake homes on both Lake Poinsett and Lake Kampeska, and also built, owned and operated the Lakeview convenience store, bait shop, and bar on Lake Poinsett. He enjoyed a good game of cards, meeting friends for coffee, collecting and rebuilding cars, watching Nascar races and Western movies, and above all, spending time with his family and friends at the lake. Roger was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed.
