Richard’s Obituary Richard L. Webber, 95, of Taylorville, formerly of Decatur, died Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Meadow Manor Skilled Care and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville. Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 22, 2019, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Decatur. Memorials may be made to the Taylorville Public Schools Foundation or Millikin University. Mr. Webber was born on September 28, 1923, in Decatur, the son of A. G. Webber, Jr. and Ellen Longley Webber. He attended Mary W. French Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson Junior High School, and graduated from Decatur High School. Following his graduation, Mr. Webber enrolled at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. His college education was interrupted by service in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Following his military service, Mr. Webber returned to Decatur and completed his education at Millikin University. He then began employment in the accounting departments of Caterpillar Tractor Company and the Illinois Power & Light Company. In the late 1950s Mr. Webber commenced his career as an educator, moving to Taylorville to teach at Taylorville High School. He also returned to Millikin to receive a Masters Degree in education. Over a teaching career of almost thirty years, Mr. Webber taught civics, history, sociology, and served as a guidance counselor, retiring in 1986. He touched the lives of thousands of students. Following his mother’s example, he was an avid golfer and bowler. Mr. Webber maintained a life-long interest in law enforcement and in acknowledgement of his support was made an honorary member of the Illinois State Troopers Lodge in Springfield. He is survived by his nephews A.G. Webber IV of Decatur and Paul L. Webber of Evanston, Illinois; niece Ellen Zaharchuk (Rod) of Portland, Oregon; sister-in-law Janet S. Webber of Evanston; and friends Dan and Eldonna Herzberger of Taylorville. Mr. Webber was preceded in death by his parents and brothers A.G. Webber III and Frederic L. Webber. Read More
