Marian’s Obituary Marian Smetana, age 90 of Temple, died Wednesday, March 27, 2019 in a local hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday, April 1st at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Chamberlain as celebrant. Burial will follow at Seaton Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday, March 31st with rosary recited at 7:30 PM at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mrs. Smetana was born to Joseph Jerry and Marie Anna Kusak Schiller on December 3, 1928 in Cyclone, Texas in her grandparents’ farmhouse. She graduated from Rogers High School in 1946 and began training at the old King’s Daughters Hospital in Temple as a Laboratory Technician, which would become her lifelong profession. She worked for 22 years at Santa Fe Hospital and retired in 1993. She married Marvin John Smetana on December 1, 1951 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Temple. They lived in San Antonio and then moved back to Temple in 1970. She became Catholic when she married and was a member of St. Mary, where she served for many years in the Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a granddaughter, Angela Rae Smetana. She is survived by her children: one son, Layne Smetana and wife, Teresa of Eddy, three daughters, Donna Smetana and Wanda Smetana both of Temple and Cheryl McKenna and husband, David of Commerce, sister, Mildred Wentrcek and husband. James of Rogers, six grandchildren: Kaylie Pruett, Jared Pruett and Rebekah Smetana, all of Austin, Jacob Smetana of Eddy, Katie McKenna of Wylie, and John McKenna of Commerce, sister-in-law, Evelyn Kelarek and husband, Edmond of Temple, and numerous nieces and nephews.
